“No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.” —

Vladimir Nabokov

I was reading this list of 20 Untranslatable Words From Around the World and while we may not have figured out a way to say all of these words in English our pharmaceutical companies have certainly developed “cures” for a couple.

Total Fucking Assholes

abloodymess:

I am went through my dash and could not find the person that had a link to this Kate Harding article “On Good Kids and Total Fucking Assholes” but it is a great read and thank you for sharing it.

I fucking hate when I see adults stand up for bullies and dismiss their shitbag behavior as “kids stuff” or deny it by saying “my kid wouldn’t do that, they get good grades, go to church, are part of the community, etc.” I am not sure if these parents are just completely blind and stupid or are just former bullies themselves.

The most hateful and evil little fucks in my Jr/High School were these exact “good on paper” kids, but made many of us oddballs want to put bullets into our heads. Grades have never proven a persons worth, and any asshole can sit in a building.
